Day 6: So long Halong. Hello Hoi An.

Day 6: Good early morning Vietnam.

Waking up in Halong Bay. It doesn’t feel like we’ve been here Halong time. Halong has it been since my last meal. I feel like a Halong way from home. 

Halong until the boat leaves for the caves?

A handful of Mo-Phos were up at 6:15am for the boat to the caves. It was a bit of an after thought to get out of bed and go for me.  I’m sooooooo glad I did.  We took a bigger boat to the cave exploration dock.

We got on board to the smaller boat and met a couple from Mexico that are on their honeymoon.  Up a little early for a honeymoon?  No?  Maybe their time is just off.

 Pham was our rower.  He’s 18 and seems like he knows what he's doing.

Another Take a Minute Moment:  It’s 7:00am on a Saturday and we’re cave cruising.  And Pham the rower is also a phamous singer.  Well not sure how famous but the dude can sing.   I'm loving my boy Pham belting out some Vietnamese show tune in the middle of Halong Bay.

The song is not Phamiliar.  But you be you Pham.

Shout out thanks for Phamy for getting us to Halong Bay.  It's one of the 8 wonders of the world.  But who decides on the Wonders of the World.  How do they decide?  Why does Michelin get to decide on the best restaurants in the world?  I'm going to start my own list of the best something of the world and just make up a name and go with it.  Best Singing Rowers of the World.  There.  I did it.  Congrats Pham you are #1 for now.  I'll let you know when I discover the next one.  Actually, if you are still reading our blog, please send me a detailed list of your top Singing Rowers and why you think they should make my Top 9.

We got back to our cabin, checked out, had a bite to eat and then headed back to shore where Anh was meeting us for out drive to the airport for our flight to Hoi An.  It's a 3 hour tour, a 3 hour tour.

After the 3 hour ride, it was time to say our goodbyes to Anh.  He made our trips to Hanoi and Halong Bay that much better.  It really puts the icing on the cake when you travel in a foreign country with a great guide. You can tell Anh loves his job and we connected with him over the last few days.  Thanks Anh.  You be you.

Hanoi to Hoi An is about a 1.5 hour flight.  We got picked up at the airport by Michael.  


Sorry.  That's actually Laura with her eyes closed.  I didn't mean to make that a racist joke, but I don't have a picture of Michael yet and this is the closest one I got.  Please forgive me.  But Michael did take some pics of us heading to dinner in the downtown area of Hoi An.

Hoi An means "light fixtures" in Vietnamese.  Actually, we don't know what it means yet.  As I mentioned, we just got picked up by Michael and we have no pictures of him yet and he hasn't told us anything about Hoi An yet except where we are going for dinner.

Not just for breakfast 

Many said Morning Glory was our best dinner so far.  We had some traditional Vietnamese dishes that were great.  Soup. A fried spring roll taco type wrap. BBQ Chicken.  String beans.  All good.  Michael, more after dinner pics please.  This city looks cool.

A long day, but a great one.  The caves were incredible and the journey to Hoi An was fun.  Looking forward to making more Mo-Pho memories.  Check -in time.  Wow, this place looks special.

  Day 10:  Today, we are on our way to the war tunnels.  To get there we are taking a boat along the Saigon River.  A 90 minute tour; a 90 minute tour.  Good Morning Saigon River They call the city Ho Chi Minh City, and they used to call it Saigon, but Ho Chi decided to change it to unify Vietnam, but the river name didn't get changed.  It's very confusing.  It's similar to Crypto.com that used to called Staples Center.  But everyone still says Staples Center.   Nuhan said the trip to the tunnels will be shorter this September because they will be opening up the underground Metro.  He said, “We’re good at making tunnels.”  Nothing like a good tunnel joke before our trip to the Cu Chi Tunnels.  Follow the Blue Brick Road… This dude is General Tran Studly Hung Low - Way Low. Day 1: Travel to Singapore (1/27/24)

Saturday 1/24/24:  Hi blog readers.  Back again and excited for Vietnam 2024.  Thank you for following, I appreciate you.  For new readers, this isn't the typical travel blog.  I'm really going for a blog to help remember what we did; easily share a link for those that travel here one day; be grateful; and stay away from "I'm amazing.  See I did this and ate this and you didn't."  Sometimes it works.  Sometimes it doesn't and sometimes (but rarely) I embarrass my lovely wife with bathroom humor, and bad grammar.  Yep.  Quick shout out to our friends Rob and Andrea Alexander for staying with Sparky for a few days, and driving us to the airport.  Rob speaking Sparky And a special thanks to our lovely travel guru Amy Pearl for putting this trip together.  These upcoming days would never happen without her.   A genuine "Thank you Fame" is not enough.  I have officially done nothing, and I'm not 100% sure where we are...

Day 4: Hi from Hanoi

  Day 4:  Gooooooood Morning Vietnam.  Good morning Mo-Phos.  Good morning family and friends of Mo -Phos.  This is our final day in Hanoi and everyone is excited to get started.  Ang is actually spelled Anh and pronounced Ang.  He picked us up at 9:00am after a hearty breakfast. Anh in Action Anh's son is named Shin.  He's 5 years old.  He met his wife 14 years ago. On his first date he picked her up on a scooter.   Here's a picture of Anh going on his first date.  He brought her boxes of Apples.   15 boxes.  Very generous.   Here is a picture of Anh on his second date... You go Anh.  A bit of an overshare.  But, no worries, we'll keep it on the down low. My first date, I picked Wendy up in a rental car. It had bench seating for the front seat.  Remember those cars?  I miss bench seats.  No pics to share though. We visited a 400 year old temple, one of the oldest in Vietnam....
