Day 5: Halong Bay

 

Day 5:   We got picked up by Anh 8:00 and checked out of Hanoi on our way to Hau Long Bay. It’s about a 3 hour tour a 3 hour tour.  On the way, Anh shared some more details about his life. I wasn’t listening AGAIN.  Fuck, I got to work on that.  Not sure Rob was listening either.  

Anh, can you repeat that?

Doodles, who does listen. Shared that Anh’s Mom and Dad had a chance to get out of Vietnam, but when interviewed his Dad said the wrong thing. Sound familiar.  Wendy had had similar fears. Rightfully so. Ends up his Mom is in St. Louis running a manicure business. His Dad passed away from Covid.   I like Anh. Nice man. He’s been a great tour guide. He’ll share a place in my memories.

Never been Pearl farming

We made a scheduled stop at an Oyster Farm.   The outside looked like a cool way to learn how oysters multiply and pearls are optimized. Like a warehouse.   Oyster fact: I think they bed themselves and self multiply. Does that mean the divorce rate for Oysters is 0%?

Our teacher was Wendy. She ran through the oyster mating ritual class fast. Because inside was The Pearl Mart.

After oysters mate, they make pearl necklaces.  Maybe I’ll give Wendy a pearl necklace?  Had to.

Sometimes the blog writes itself

Now I get it. It’s Wendy and Anh’s House of Pearl Commissions. He shared with me he gets paid something on our crews’ purchases. That’s fine.  He deserves it.  Kid is working hard.

Today we are spending the night on the Capella. It’s an amazing mini- cruise ship taking us through the islands.  Pretty special. 

How long is Halong you ask?

It's 1900 + of these little islands along the Bay.  It's a must see if in Vietnam.  No brainer.  It's spectacular.  Take A Minute Moment:  Not a typical Friday lunch at Fromins.. Thank you Fame and thank you Mo-Phos for this moment.  In gratitude we live.

Now I finally understand Fantasy Island.  These places tend to bring out the best in couples.  Also 0% divorce rate.  A tribute to MalkinMates...



The Rowans will be sending the inside the cabin pictures.  But they haven't left their cabins yet.  Hmmmm.  Fantasy Island.  When 309 is a rockin, don't come a knockin.  Go Rowans.  Here was the first pic from the Rowans.

Everyone do the Bradslide

Happy hour at the back of the boat. Doodles entered the spring rolling competition.  The best spring roll wins and the audience decides. Doodles lost by 1 vote. Amy voted for Miss Rockin Roll. WTF Amy? 1st place prize was a Capella cooking apron that would have looked great on Doodles.

  Day 10:  Today, we are on our way to the war tunnels.  To get there we are taking a boat along the Saigon River.  A 90 minute tour; a 90 minute tour.  Good Morning Saigon River They call the city Ho Chi Minh City, and they used to call it Saigon, but Ho Chi decided to change it to unify Vietnam, but the river name didn't get changed.  It's very confusing.  It's similar to Crypto.com that used to called Staples Center.  But everyone still says Staples Center.   Nuhan said the trip to the tunnels will be shorter this September because they will be opening up the underground Metro.  He said, “We’re good at making tunnels.”  Nothing like a good tunnel joke before our trip to the Cu Chi Tunnels.  Follow the Blue Brick Road… This dude is General Tran Studly Hung Low - Way Low. Day 1: Travel to Singapore (1/27/24)

Saturday 1/24/24:  Hi blog readers.  Back again and excited for Vietnam 2024.  Thank you for following, I appreciate you.  For new readers, this isn't the typical travel blog.  I'm really going for a blog to help remember what we did; easily share a link for those that travel here one day; be grateful; and stay away from "I'm amazing.  See I did this and ate this and you didn't."  Sometimes it works.  Sometimes it doesn't and sometimes (but rarely) I embarrass my lovely wife with bathroom humor, and bad grammar.  Yep.  Quick shout out to our friends Rob and Andrea Alexander for staying with Sparky for a few days, and driving us to the airport.  Rob speaking Sparky And a special thanks to our lovely travel guru Amy Pearl for putting this trip together.  These upcoming days would never happen without her.   A genuine "Thank you Fame" is not enough.  I have officially done nothing, and I'm not 100% sure where we are...

Day 4: Hi from Hanoi

  Day 4:  Gooooooood Morning Vietnam.  Good morning Mo-Phos.  Good morning family and friends of Mo -Phos.  This is our final day in Hanoi and everyone is excited to get started.  Ang is actually spelled Anh and pronounced Ang.  He picked us up at 9:00am after a hearty breakfast. Anh in Action Anh's son is named Shin.  He's 5 years old.  He met his wife 14 years ago. On his first date he picked her up on a scooter.   Here's a picture of Anh going on his first date.  He brought her boxes of Apples.   15 boxes.  Very generous.   Here is a picture of Anh on his second date... You go Anh.  A bit of an overshare.  But, no worries, we'll keep it on the down low. My first date, I picked Wendy up in a rental car. It had bench seating for the front seat.  Remember those cars?  I miss bench seats.  No pics to share though. We visited a 400 year old temple, one of the oldest in Vietnam....
